So, I've finally finished my Death Ray! :D

I built my Death Ray from all sorts of odds and ends! The main body is an old Super Soker water gun with the water tank removed which, in true Death Ray fashion, has been turned upside down. I also cut up an old water pistol and glued that on and added bits of carboard to cover the joins and give support. There's also a pill box, the viser of an old bike helmet, and an Actimel yoghurt pot stuck on! I used some masking tape to hide the joins.

I spray painted the gun black. Once again, I used the Citadel paints as they're designed for painting on plastic. I used Chaos Black to go over any areas that the spray had missed.

I painted the some parts of the gun Red Gore (these paints have such lovely names...) and some other bits Chainmail.

The red didn't give very good coverage over the black basecoat so I gave them a second coat.

I gave the red areas a third coat of Red Gore, and then I tidied up the edges with Chaos Black.

I then drybrushed Chainmail over the whole gun. Although the actual Death Ray is pretty neatly painted, I prefer the "scuffed" look and think it's a bit more in keeping with Dr. Horrible's low-budget mad science! Also, this has the bonus of making it look like it's actually made of metal, not plastic, carboard, and bits of masking tape!

Apologies for the poor quality photo - apparently my iPhone doesn't like synthetic light.
Anyway, I painted "Ray" onto a piece of paper and stuck it onto the gun. We didn't have any duct tape so I painted some masking tape black and wrote "Death" on that instead!

Again, bad photo... So, this is the finished Death Ray! I also sprayed a satin-finish varnish to stop the paint from chipping, but it's now done!
So, goggles are done, my boots and gloves have arrived, and I've cut out the pieces for my labcoat. Just have to sew the labcoat together and I'll be in full supervillain mode! :D
I feel:
pleased
