So, I'm reading House of Leaves at the moment. I've nearly finished - just under 100 pages left - and it. Is. Awesome.
Basically, this guy - Johnny - who finds this book written by an old man called Zampanò. The book is all about a film called The Navidson Record, which is about the Navidson family who move into a house in Virginia. First, a built-in warderobe appears in a room where there wasn't before. Then Will (the husband) finds that the house is 1/4" bigger on the inside than the out. Then, a corridor appears leading out of the living room, which should stick out of the house, but doesn't. They start to explore the corridor, and finds it leads into an impossibly large labyrinth - at one point, they calculate the depth of a staircase is larger than the circumfrence of the Earth - it's pitch black inside, the walls move and there's the growl following them...
Zampanò's book details all of the film, with references and TONNES of footnotes, details on what other people thought and how they interperated it, quotes from interviews with the people involved, whether people thought it was a hoax or not...
Except, when Johnny gets the book, he finds that the film doesn't exist. Half the books referenced in the footnotes don't exist, and none of the people quoted have ever heard of it. He can't dismiss the book though, and his own notes and footnotes litter the book too. He starts feeling affected by the house too...
Seriously, READ IT. It's as creepy as. Plus it has a passing refernce to Myst!! /fangirl moment
I feel:
scared
