So, it's my friends birthday in a few weeks, and we're dressing up as super heroes and super villains. Obviously, there's only one person I'm going to dress as!
Anyway, I thought I'd make some posts on LJ about how I'm making the costume. My goggles and gloves have arrived from eBay, and the boots have been ordered. I'm making(!) the lab coat from the pattern very kindly made by

So, today I painted the goggles:

These are how the goggles originally looked. As you can see, not very Dr. Horrible! First, I removed the lens part and the strap. Then I rubbed over all of the green part with sand paper to give the paint something to adhere to.

Next, I painted a black base coat. I used Citadel paints - although they are pricey, they're designed to paint over plastic and metal so give good coverage. They also come in a wide range of colours.

Next, I drybrushed Chainmail over the basecoat. Drybrushing (which is where you wipe off all the excess paint from the brush) gives a really good texture.

I then drybrushed Vermin Brown over the top to give a slightly rusty look.

After that, I drybrushed Tin Bitz on top.

To tone down the rusty colours, I drybrushed Boltgun Metal over the entire body.

Finally, I replaced the strap and the lenses. I also repainted the vents black as they had picked up some of the silver paint during the drybrushing.
So, that's my goggles done! Tomorrow I'll show how I made my Death Ray :)
I feel:
