The Pepsi Refresh Project is a monthly grant program run by Pepsi.
From their FAQ:
We are looking for ideas from individuals, non-profits and pro-social businesses that can make a positive impact in the community. Ideas should be feasible and completed 12 months from the date you receive the first funds. Ideas must have impact within one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia.
Each month, up to $1.3 million will be awarded as follows: 2 Grants at the $250,000 level; 10 Grants at the $50,000 level; 10 Grants at the $25,000 level; and 10 Grants at the $5,000 level.
I think we can all agree that it's a wonderful program.
Some of the ideas currently listed at the $25,000 level:
- Integrate arts with academics in a center for challenged children
- Offer reading and math after school programs to at-risk rural children
- Provide room makeovers for children with disabilities in San Diego
- FictionAlley, a Harry Potter fanfic archive has submitted a grant proposal for $25,000 in charitable funds to keep their website up.
I just... there are no words for how fucking angry I am. That money is for charity, not for your precious Snape/Harry pr0nz. How ignorant do you have to be to do something like this? And, of course, they're encouraging people to vote for them. A lot of fandom is outraged, but some people are still voting for them...
So head over to the Pepsi Refresh Project and vote. There are so many good causes, and you get 10 votes every day! Don't let some stupid fansite admins take $25,000 from someone who really needs the money. :(
