"Lets kill the gays! :D" - The UN

Gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people were once again subject to the whims of homophobia and religious and cultural extremism this week, thanks to a United Nations vote that removed “sexual orientation” from a resolution that protects people from arbitrary executions. In other words, the UN General Assembly this week voted to allow LGBT people to be executed without cause. 

"UN General Assembly Votes To Execute Gays Without Cause". It's okay for a government to arbitrarily execute people on the basis of sexual orientation, which actually means ANYONE, period, because since these are executions without cause anyway, someone wouldn't have to be PROVEN GLBTQP in order to be executed.  The level of illogical stupidity here is so mind-boggling that I can't begin to fully express it, except to say - fuck the UN. 

That, and the UN should be disbanded immediately if this is their idea of preserving human rights. 

Fuck the UN.  I'm actually having to resist the urge to just keep typing that over and over.  One last time.

FUCK THE UN.

The UN should have been disbanded long before this, just another reason and perhaps more people will see how useless this organization is.

But no, people are too interested in being politically correct and letting folks who can't even run their own countries decently, have an opportunity for 'power'.

We were smart enough to steer clear of Woodrow Wilson's mess after WWI, but we fell for it later. Oh well.

If you dig deep into the background of this, you'll see the USA abstained because they allow capital punishment and never vote on this measure. It was still a close vote though. And actually the list that sexual orientation was removed from was a "non exhaustive" list of things people have been persecuted for in the past.

So it's more symbolic of the homophobia of the African nations than of the view of "the UN" in general. Maybe we should be targeting our disapproval to those that deserve it?

It's very sad that the world is steadily becoming more intolerant.

Oh no, I undersstand that it was very close (79 votes to 70, I think?), and that the UK and the majority of Europe (amongst other nations) voted against it. I just don't understand why there would even be the option of voting to remove it. I very much doubt the UN would even have a vote on whether to remove the protection of religous or ethnic peoples from being murdered by the state.

My real problem with it is that there are still many countries that criminalise homosexuality, and still many that punish it with the death penalty - this vote will only serve to reinforce these atrocities as such nations will see the UN no longer sees this as a human rights violation.

Yes, that's the problem - the African and middle eastern countries got together to propose the amendment and swing the vote, driven on by religious groups. They see it as a moral issue.

This is one of the reasons why I'm an atheist. :-(
