Well he IS protective, but it's more "she's mine, hands off" rather than "I won't let random ELE members have sex with you because I know you really wouldn't want that". It's like he's protecting his property because he doesn't want anyone else to have her, not protecting her.

He is very deluded. And bonkers. He does think he loves her, which is why he wants to marry her, but really he's just obsessed and wants to own her.
